About Ayurveda

What is the definition of Ayurveda?
Ayurveda literally means The science of life or The knowledge of lifespan.

Why should I learn more about Ayurveda?
Because Ayurveda encompasses Eastern wisdom that contains the missing pieces to the Western puzzle of health and wellness. On the path to radiant health, Ayurveda teaches us how to get back in touch with our true selves in order to facilitate the healing process. Ayurveda is a positive medicine that helps us understand the profound effect that our mind has on our bodies. It teaches us how to become more aware of the imbalances that occur in our minds so that we may correct those imbalances which then filter out to our bodies to establish a heightened state of well being regardless of our illness or age.

How will Ayurveda help me heal my body?

Through a series of assessment techniques followed by a series of remedies that include nutrition, treatments & lifestyle changes, Ayurveda helps the body heal itself by restoring its proper cellular memory. Most people believe that heredity is our destiny, that sickness is to be expected as we age, or that our current ailments are permanent. The truth is that the body is dynamic--therefore constantly changing and rebuilding itself. If our bodies are not functioning properly, we must rid ourselves of the conditioning that brought on our illness and replace it with the thoughts and lifestyle that produces radiant health.

What is the meaning of Vata, Pitta and Kapha?
Ayurveda is based on elemental theory. These elements: Ether, Air, Fire, Water, and Earth, are as important to understand in our mind and bodies as they are in nature. Our bodies are comprised of all of these elements which are physically grouped accordingly:

Ether and Air = Vata
Fire and Water = Pitta
Water and Earth = Kapha

Simplified and in English, Vata means change, Pitta means focus, and Kapha means nourish. So the fundamental question is, Can you change, focus, and nourish yourself as needed throughout each day of your life?

While we are all comprised of Vata, Pitta or Kapha, most of us tend to predominately display the qualities of one or a combination of two doshas (elements).

Why should I know my primary constitution (whether I am Vata, Pitta or Kapha)?
Because our primary constitution reflects areas in our lives where we may be vulnerable to imbalances. There are many ways to determine your primary body type. You can take a questionnaire or schedule an appointment with us at Radiant Health Strategies for a complete assessment.
